Faith – as small as a mustard seed

That’s it. A mustard seed! That is what God wants us to have. I don’t know if you have ever seen a mustard seed but it is not big.. at all. It amazes me that this all we need but it’s such a challenge to achieve.

I love the story of the Centurion in Matthew 8:5 -13. Here we have a man who is greatly concerned about his sick servant. He comes to Jesus for help and Jesus willing stated “I will come and heal him.” BUT, the man refused revealing that he to has authority like Jesus (did you catch that, we have authority over the powers of evil and sickness just like Jesus). The man said just SPEAK a word and my servant will be healed. Jesus himself was astonished by this man’s faith; he stated that he had not found such great faith with anyone in Israel. Jesus told the man to go and it would be done as he believed and his servant was healed that very same hour (And he did it, SUDDENLY!)

Sometimes we look for some huge grand entrance, fireworks and cannons for what we are asking God to do for us. And I’m not saying that it can’t be done that way but all we really need to do is believe, exercise our faith and ask Jesus to speak a word. Once we do all these things it will be done according to our faith. We only need mustard size faith but just imagine what God would do if we increased our faith, what if we had watermelon seed faith. I heard an Elder say it this way one time “you got to see it before you see it!” We walk by faith, not by sight. We have to see our blessings, miracles and breakthroughs with our spiritual eyes. If we continue to look through the natural we will never accomplish all God has in store for us.
So, like the centurion man – GO and whatever you are believing God for use your faith and it will be done as you have believed!

Parents just don’t understand

No, seriously they/we don’t…lol

As a parent sometimes I just don’t understand my children but the funny thing is I was a child once. As we get older we forget what that age was like. As a child I always asked a lot of questions, my dad called me “20 questions“. I am noticing my younger son is exactly the same. He is not satisfied with one answer – he keeps asking question after question.question

Last week I snapped at him and I am just realizing that he is curious – so was I.  Well on this day, I was so carried away taking care of home, cooking, putting stuff away and my son kept asking “momma, is dinner ready?“, my response “Not yet baby.” He came back again, same question and I said “not quite, it takes time.” Here he comes again and my frustration is building but I remained calm. Finally, dinner was ready and I thought okay that’s it but no, another

stewie-momquestion, “mommy, how you cook so fast?” And I snapped on my baby, I raised my voice and said “WHY YOU ASK ME THAT QUESTION!” It was truly an innocent question, could have been a compliment but I didn’t stop and give my baby a chance.

If you are a parent, you have probably experienced this, maybe not the questions but something your child does that puzzles you, gets you frustrated; take time to truly understand your children. Remember YOUR children are an extension of you; some of their actions, attitudes and personalities come from you. Of course they do some things just on their own however be more understanding.

Today, I asked my son “why do you ask so many questions?“, “I don’t know momma, I just want to know things!” Nothing wrong with that, a little curiosity doesn’t hurt.

Fathers – I SALUTE YOU

Hey Fathers, I salute you on today and everyday. Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers that are taking care of their children whether they are biologically yours or not.

I dislike the fact that this day is not PRAISED like Mother’s Day. I mean don’t get me wrong ain’t no one like momma but we would not even exist without daddy. Father’s get a bad rep because of the ones that just choose to SOW THEIR WILD OATS but not take full responsibility for their child/children. Any BOY can be a baby daddy it takes a MAN to be a FATHER.

One of my favorite fathers in the Bible was Joseph. Here we have a man that took on the role of father to JESUS CHRIST. Joseph did not have any relations with Mary and we know the story, Mary was chosen by GOD to carry Jesus and be his earthly mother. But at least Jesus was inside of Mary, she had that connection – no blood connected Jesus to Joseph. Joseph could have easily walked away and left Mary and Jesus to fend for themselves on earth. But he stood on Gods word; Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. (Matt. 1:20-21

To all the men out there whether your father was in your life or not; I challenge you to be better than your father, that is what he would want anyway. All fathers are not deadbeats – I just know that this day is going to change. FATHERS will be recognized for more than just the seed. I love you fathers.

To the wonderful fathers in my life – you have shown me what a man should be and do for their children. To my father – you are the ultimate provider, we never lacked still to this day. To my brother – your children honor you for the sacrifices you have made to give them the best. To my father in love – thank you for showing your son how to be a man and thanks for accepting me as your daughter and the wisdom you share with us daily. And lastly but certainly not least to my HUSBAND –  thank you for caring for our sons, providing for them and teaching them how to be Godly boys into MEN.

TRANSFORMERS (Robots in Disguise)

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God (Romans 12:2 KJV).

We need to be transformed. We need to be different. We live in this world but we are not of the world. Our views have to change.

When I think of this scripture I think of Transformers (Robots in disguise). In the movie the transformers would be in disguise to hide from the world. Others didn’t quite understand them and so in order to be kept safe they would hide but when they transformed they actually were protectors of the earth from villain robots that wanted to do harm. When you commit to Christ you are transformed, you no longer have to hide, there is no more shame – all of your sins are under the blood. We are now protectors of the earth; the bible tells us we are the SALT of the earth (Matthew 5:13). Jesus used salt to describe how Christians are needed to bring balance and hope to an otherwise dying world ( Who do you think keeps this earth afloat; if it wasn’t for the prayers from the body of believers we would certainly be destroyed.

When you start the process of transformation it takes time; start with what you say – instead of saying I’m broke say I am in between blessings. What you hear/listen to has to change – positive in and keep negative out. Change your attitude; change your heart. Refrain from being mean and unkind. Love thy neighbor as thy self.

When you made that commitment to GOD; you surrendered yourself to him. You have tried it YOUR WAY and YOUR WAY does not work. Now it’s time to do it GOD’s way. Follow his word, follow his direction, follow his path. Seek him in everything you do – to what you choose to eat for breakfast in the morning, to how to manage your finances. WE NEED HIM daily and daily our FLESH will rise up against HIS WILL. Shut it down.

AND KEEP IT REAL! Stop trying to be something you are not. With all this reality TV, drama shows and social media we consciously and subconsciously take on personalities that are not of GOD. It’s too many that want to be the Cookie Lyon’s of the world – that is a fictional character – the real Cookie Lyon would be going right back to jail. BE YOU – who God called you to be and if your unsure of who that is, then ask your Heavenly Father – Who do you want me to be? What do you want me to do? you are the Potter and I am the clay – mold me and make me Lord in your own way. Hallelujah!!!

Year of the NON-NBA

Okay so to get this out-of-the-way, I AM A 90s BASKETBALL FAN!  Watching the NBA is the 90s was a joy in my much younger years. C’mon, who wasn’t hyped when the NBC music came on before a primetime game! I grew up a huge Chicago Bulls fan and of course Michael Jordan everything!  Seriously, how could you be a Bulls fan living in Detroit?  Well, I was and I watched every Bulls game on WGN at that time.  But as a whole, NBA basketball was more physical, competitive and entertaining in this era.  I love watching the Bulls vs. Knicks or the Lakers vs. Celtics because you just knew what was coming; a flat-out physical and intense game each time.

Since then, the NBA has gotten boring and predictable.  If you look at this year’s playoffs only, we already were waiting for the Cavs vs. Warriors for the third time!  There is no competition for them and it felt like watching JV teams playing Varsity if you know what I mean.  Now, before I jump in, the 80s were predominantly Lakers vs. Celtics every year!  You might as well just wait until the NBA Finals to be entertained.  Whether the term, “Super Teams” were used back then; those were indeed powerful teams with Hall of Fame type lineups.  Just research the Lakers and Celtics’ lineups in those eras and see for yourself!

Back to the title, “Year of the NON-NBA!”

This was the first time that I did not watch a SINGLE NBA basketball game! As an avid sports fan, it was unheard of.  My wife was shocked that I did not watch a game this year.  The truth is, I did not feel like I was missing anything.  The NBA has become soft, predictable for the referees, the powers of the NBA empire and the lack of competition.  Before the season began, EVERYONE knew that the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors were destined for a third NBA Finals match.  All you had to do was look at both rosters and within seconds could determine that.  The NBA needs to do a facelift and see what can be done to bring back the days of the 90s badly!  This is a different game now, I acknowledge that, but where’s the entertainment right now?  Look at NBA All-Star Weekend as an example.  I remember all of my friends gathering at one house anticipating the events, like the dunk contest.  Even the all-star game was fierce but those days are long gone.

What’s your Turning Point?

As I sit back and reflect on my life and where God has taken me, I wonder “WHAT WAS MY TURNING POINT?”

Living with both my parents on the west side of Detroit, nothing was never perfect.  We did not live paycheck to paycheck but we weren’t taking vacations or trips on a regular basis.  I watched my father work day in and day out without much rest and my mother take care of the home with my sister and I getting on her nerves.  When my parents lost our home due to FORECLOSURE, it was a turning point in their lives.  They had to start over and not just financially but emotionally as well.

Fast forwarding my life married to a beautiful woman with our two sons, I think to myself how did I become who I am today?  You see what I did not tell you was that I was a fighter.  I got into some many fights that my mother wanted to place me in juvenile school!  I could write a book about the stupid things that I did as a young teen but how many of us could do the same?  I did not care for drugs, alcohol, sex before marriage, etc. because I knew enough about JESUS not to be that stupid!

You want to know my turning point? When my oldest son cried and told me that I don’t love him when he was four years old!  When my first son was born, it was a life-changing moment for me.  It basically confirm moving into fatherhood and now being the man that my son would look to for guidance and a role model.  I was ready physically but not spiritually.  I was not the greatest father nor husband at that time and it was to the point that I almost lost my wife and kids.  My oldest son, Jermaine Jr, has developmental delays and it made me angry when this was announced because I would ask God, WHY ME?  HOW CAN ANY OF MY SONS NOT BE NORMAL?

THIS WAS THE TURNING POINT IN MY LIFE! I could choose the path of forgiveness or the path of destruction.  I had to look myself in the mirror and apologize to myself for being stupid…YES you have to do that when you’re in the WRONG! I had to also apologize to GOD for not being who HE wants me to be!  Jermaine Jr and I cried together that day because I remember asking my father the same question which brought back memories.  My life changed that day knowing that GOD opened my eyes to having the same challenges at his age.  My parents never told me before and hid it from me all these years.  As I am typing this right now, I love my sons equally and do all that I can through the strength that GOD has given me to be the best father possible.   Just like GOD has healed me, I know that HE will do wonders for my sons.

So ask yourself this question, WHAT WAS YOUR TURNING POINT?  If you haven’t had one yet, what are you waiting for?

Ain’t no momma like the one I Got!

Ain’t no momma like my mother Lue B. Lott (yes I said AIN’T).

Today is her DAY, her BORNday, her BIRTHDAY!

I have never had to look far for a role model. She was always right there in my home, teaching, loving and doing for myself,  my siblings and my father.

You name it, she can do it! She was a career woman – school teacher for over 30 years, she is a wife – married to the same man for over 40 years, a mother – to three children and many others that she did not birth and above all she is a servant and Child of God.

Momma, I adore you and I speak your name, not just today but everyday. You are wonderful and God ain’t thru with you yet girl.

Help me celebrate my mother, my QUEEN – Lue B. Lott.

I’m tired of being Comfortable

It sounds weird but what I mean is that I’m sick of my comfort zone. I mean seriously, it’s holding me back, hindering me from the next level.

There is so much I want to do or should be doing but I end up saying “Oh, that’s out of my comfort zone“, “Yeah, I don’t think I can do that” or “What will people say“….Blah, Blah, Blah… STOP IT! Aaaahhhhhhhh (release) Feel better – YES!

Ok, that part is over but seriously I’m ready to step out of comfort. Anything new or different is going to feel uncomfortable but not for long. You have to pass thru failure to get to success and I’m ready for success. And I want SUCCESS for me; who cares what others think? I once heard a pastor say they gone talk about you if it’s going good and they gone talk about you when it’s not going good. So it doesn’t matter what others think, what I think matters and I don’t want any regrets like “Oh, I wish I would have done…or “I should have pursued“.

Who is with me? Who is ready to make their comfort zone uncomfortable? Let’s remove the nice fluffy pillows, take off the soft shoes, get from under that warm blanket and let’s get to it. Will it be cold? probably; Will you get frustrated?  I’m almost certain you will, but in the end you can I say I DID IT, despite the obstacles, challenges and discomfort!

What is your comfort zone preventing you from doing?

Want to start a business? – DO IT.

Been wanting to write a book? – WRITE IT.

Put out an album – SING IT.

Join me. I mean at least if we are going to be uncomfortable we can be uncomfortable together.

When you step out of your comfort zone, you are stepping into your greatness.

J.A.M.B.S – What is it? It’s Joy and Miracle Breakthrough Service.

A service created from the vision of Pastor Philip R. Jackson of Greater Seth Temple COGIC. An unstructured service designed to for giving GOD honor and praise for what he’s already done and what he is getting ready to do in our lives.

It’s three powerful words, actions that any person can relate to and want to experience. This upcoming week we will be in our J.A.M.B.S Conference 2017 and it will be MIGHTY.

I just want to reflect on those words a bit.

JOY – it’s not happiness – happiness is temporary; Joy is everlasting, its unspeakable and full of glory. Joy is when you are able to smile even though the rent is due and you know your a couple hundred dollars short; Joy is waking up in the morning ready to take on the day even though you have aching pain in your body. It’s the thought that you know GOD is working everything out for your good.

MIRACLE – they do still exist. We may not hear about them or see them happen but Miracles are still being performed by our GOD. Blind eyes are being opened, the deaf is receiving hearing, and Cancer is drying up. Miracles are happening everyday.

BREAKTHROUGH – Imagine a wall in front of you – you can’t go over it, you can’t go under it, you can’t go around it – YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH IT! That’s your breakthrough. If you think that it’s over and you don’t know what else to do GOD will breakthrough the walls in your life and you will walk through to VICTORY.

#JOY, #MIRACLE, #BREAKTHROUGH. Come and get it.

I hope to see you there!!
